Devon, a blond person with glasses, is with her partner Morgan, a person with curly brown hair wearing a red dress. Devon is kissing Morgan on the cheek while Morgan smiles.

Devon is bisexual, genderqueer, and a steadfast supporter of LGBTQ2S+ rights. In 2019, they left a thriving legal practice at a Victoria law firm to work for the Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination in Georgetown, Guyana. Guyana is the last country in South America with criminal prohibitions against same-sex intimacy. In her role there, Devon provided front-line legal advocacy services, conducted human rights trainings for government staff, and laid the groundwork for a prospective constitutional challenge to some of Guyana’s anti-LGBTQ2S+ laws.

Devon is a passionate advocate against designed-to-pollute business practices like planned obsolescence in consumer technology and fast fashion. She uses her social media presence to share clothing repair and maintenance tips, and regularly gifts her personal repair services to friends and family to keep textile waste out of landfills.

Meet Devon.

An activist and lawyer based in Victoria, BC, Devon is a strong, committed voice with a record of fighting for progressive issues.

As co-founder of the AccessBC campaign, Devon successfully pushed to make prescription contraception free in British Columbia, helping more than 188,000 people across the province access free contraception since the policy came into effect. She has continued that work as the campaign’s national liaison, supporting similar campaigns across the country – including in Manitoba, which recently announced it would be making contraception free, and federally, contributing to the recent announcement that contraception would be included in a national Pharmacare plan. As a result of their advocacy, Devon has received the 2023 Saanich News Local Hero Award, the 2024 Broadbent Institute Jack Layton Progress Prize, and the 2024 BC Achievement Community Award.
